چکیده
The IEEE 802.11 family of protocols for wireless local area networks have been used widely for many years. In this paper we present a PEPA model for 802.11b operating under a number of scenarios which highlight different performance issues, and the channel access in terms of utilisation, throughput with fairness and unfairness are studied in this paper. In particular we study the issue of fairness when there is competition for access to the transmission channel. © 2015 Newcastle University. Enhanced Protection Mechanism for Wireless LAN to Reduce Protocol Overhead
The Wireless LANs (WLAN) have become more popular and commonly used these days. WLAN links many devices using some wireless methods like OFDM, Spread Spectrum etc. There are several IEEE Standards exists for Wireless LAN, among them IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g are most popular types of IEEE 802.11. These two standards are “Wi-Fi” certified and operate at 2.4GHz band. The 802.11g supports high...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of IEEE 802.11b Wireless Networks with Object Oriented Petri Nets
Communication protocols are often investigated using simulation. This paper presents a performance study of the distributed coordination function of 802.11 networks. Firstly, our study illustrates the different classes of Petri Nets used for modeling network protocols and their robustness in modeling based on formal methods. Next we propose a detailed 802.11b model based on Object-oriented Petr...
متن کاملModeling and Analysis of IEEE 802
In recent years, WLAN technology has been gaining popularity around the world with its sub standard 802.11b receiving major deployments in many indoor environments. To deploy WLAN, IT professionals are often unfamiliar with the behavior of wireless technologies. The result is lack of efficient deployment of wireless LANs and unable to compete the wired counterpart. The aim of this paper is to d...
متن کاملRealMedia Streaming Performance on an IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN
This paper presents experimental measurements of RealMedia audio/video streaming applications on an IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN. Empirical traffic measurements collected using a wireless network analyzer are used to characterize RealMedia streaming workloads, and to assess their impacts on wireless network performance. In addition, we study the relationship between the wireless channel error rate...
متن کاملSimulation Study of eLearning Classroom using iPads Based on Wireless LAN with IEEE 802.11b
This paper presents a simulation study of eLearning classroom using iPads as mobile devices based on the wireless LAN with IEEE 802.11b protocol. Moreover, this paper presents a simulation study whether the IEEE 802.11b can support up to 25 iPads of the eLearning classroom without fairness problems on a shared Wireless LAN. The simulation is performed by OPNET IT Guru Academic Edition 9.1.
